Petosa’s guide service is proud to offer fully guided Steelhead trips on Washington’s premier rivers. Starting around Thanksgiving, I will start fishing for Hatchery Steelhead on the Cowlitz and Skagit rivers. The Cowlitz River offers the largest hatchery run in the State of Washington; these fish average between 6-10 pounds but it is not uncommon to catch steelhead weighing into the teens. During winter Steelhead season we will primarily be side-drifting eggs cured in Pautzke’s Borax O’ Fire on ultra-light G-Loomis 1141 spinning rods with Shimano Saros reels. These trips sell fast due to the high demand and short fishing season. If you are interested in a trip, it is advised that you get your name on the books early for some great Steelhead fishing.
Cowlitz B-run Steelhead: March
During the month of March, I will be doing trips on the Cowlitz River. During March the Cowlitz River gets a huge run of b-run Steelhead. These fish average 8-12 pounds and are aggressive and fight like crazy. As with winter fish we will primarily be side-drifting for these Steelhead but might pull divers if conditions warrant. This is some of the hottest Steelhead fishing in Washington with limits of Steelhead being the norm. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to experience some of the best Steelhead fishing in Washington. This is another fishery, due to such a short season, that I encourage you to get your name on the books early and reserve your spot!
Skagit, Hoh, Sol Duc, Bogachiel Steelhead: Jan. 15th – April 15th
From January 15th until April 15th we will start to see the trophy class fish that enter the Skagit, Hoh, Sol Duc and Bogachiel river. These fish average 8-12 pounds with many caught into the twenty pound mark every year, and that’s not to mention that there is always the talk of the thirty pound Steelhead that got away. These fish are aggressive and will put any Steelheader to the test. Native Steelhead fight hard and offer great sport and challenge for all anglers and skill levels. During Native Steelhead season we utilize such techniques as Side-Drifting, Float fishing, Bobber-dogging, Plug-pulling and Fly fishing, if you fly fish.
