Skagit Spring Chinook: June and July
During the month of May the Skagit River closes down. During the closure Spring Chinook start to make their way to the Marblemount hatchery. When the river opens June 1st these fish are untouched and aggressive toward anything in their way. Due to the high demand of this season we will be offering morning and afternoon trips. These trips book up extremely fast, so please give me a call to get you on the books.
Skagit River Coho: August – Nov 26th
What can you say about the Skagit, when it comes to its Coho run? It is nothing short of spectacular! The Skagit River System receives one of the largest runs of Coho in Washington. Great for all ages and skill levels, these chrome beauties start to make their way into the system in late July. Generally the Skagit will open for Salmon fishing in August, and when it does it can get pretty exciting pretty dang quick! Being of both hatchery and native descent, these Coho can reach the high teens and even some in the 20 pound class are caught every year. With expected run sizes of over 100,000 fish almost every year you can understand why everybody can’t wait for this fishery!
Skagit River Pink Salmon: August – Sept 15th
On odd numbered years the Skagit receives THE largest run of Pink Salmon in Washington. This run is one of the funnest fisheries for all ages and skill levels. These fish average much larger (5-8 pounds) and taste much better than all other Pinks in Washington Rivers. Being of cold water descent, these fish fight hard and are great sport on light tackle. A great time of the year to get anybody into fishing including young children. Heck anybody who enjoys catching more fish than you can shake a stick at! I am also going to be offering half day trips for Pinks!
Cowlitz River Spring Chinook- April 15th through May 31st
The Cowlitz River offers great opportunities for Spring Chinook from April 15th to May 31st. The Cowlitz Spring Chinook run is something I look forward to every year. The purple back beauties are absolutely amazing fighters and are some of the best eating fish of the year. During this same time frame there is also B-run Steelhead still in the Cowlitz, as well as a few Summer Steelhead. This mixed bag of fish makes for an exciting day while on the water.
