Washington Steelhead Fishing with Petosa's!

Petosa's guide service is proud to offer fully guided Steelhead trips on Washingtons premiere rivers. The Skagit and Sauk systems are world renowned rivers and offer first class Steelhead fishing.

Starting in late November until the end of January we will fish for Hatchery Steelhead. These fish average 6-8 pounds with many pushing well into the teens.

From January until the end of April we will start to see the trophy class fish that enter the Skagit and Sauk. These fish average 8-12 pounds with many caught into the twenty pound mark every year. And their is always the talk of the thirty pound Steelhead the got away. These fish are aggresive and will put any Steelheader to the test. Skagit Steelhead Fight harder in my opinion than any other in the world.

As well as the Skagit and Sauk. We also book trips during the month of February on Washington's famous Coastal rivers. We will fish such rivers as the Sol Duc and the Hoh river, for some of the massive Steelhead that enter these sytems every year. If you are interested in a trip please let me know as availability does go quickly.

Washington Salmon Fishing with Petosa's!

If you are looking for a Salmon trip then look no further! Petosa's is proud to offer Salmon charters from June until November. We fish for all 5 species of Pacific Salmon on the Skagit, Sol Duc and Hoh rivers.

May- Kalama Spring Chinook As the Skagit closes down at the end of April we will make our migration to southern Washingtons Kalama river. The Kalama river recieves a fantastic run of Spring Chinook that average 12-18 pounds and are fantastic on the bar-b-q as well as your rod.

Skagit Spring Chinook- June-July During the month of May the Skagit River Closes Down. During the closure Spring Chinook start to make their way to the Marblemount hatchery. When the river opens June 1st these fish are untouched and aggresive toward anything in their way. Due to the high demand of this season we will be be offering morning and afternoon trips. These trips book up extremely fast , so please give me a call to get you on the books.

August- October Skagit river Coho During these months We will be targeting Coho (average 6-10 pounds with many reaching high teens)on the Skagit river. The Skagit receives over 100,000 Coho year and offers great fishing opprotunities. Coho salmon are highly aggresive to both lures and flies, and offer faced paced action for any angler.

November- Skagit Coho and Chum During the month of November we will start to see our first push of Skagit river Chum salmon. Chum salmon in my opinion are the hardest fighting salmon, and offer arm wrenching action all day long. It is not uncommon to hook 20 plus chums in a day. This is also the best time of year for the biggest Coho in the Skagit Sytem, this time of year offers great fihsing opprotunities.

Sockeye Salmon are available from July until August. These Salmon average 3-5 pounds. I currently do not guide Sockeye but, if you are interesed in where to fish them shoot me a email. For Sockeye you can use Shrimp, Yarn with Shrimp scent and Spinners.

Fly Fishing on the Skagit

As you stand in some of the most famous steelhead fly water in the world,
you start to realize the stresses of the world suddenly do not exist...
the constant chaos of life, or work does not apply anymore.
You stand on the rocks where legends have stood before you.
The emerald green waters brush against your leg as you stand knee deep in tradition. Whether it be your first time with a fly rod, or a life long passion (or addiction), we can book a trip based on your needs.

The Skagit and Sauk river systems contain some of the largest strains of Steelhead in the west coast, making it a popular destination for the avid fly fisherman. These remarkable fish average 8-14 pounds, and it is not rare for a 20+ pounder to hit your line. With it's wide sweeping bars and infinite fly water, these rivers provide endless opportunities for any angler apt to fly or spey (double hand rod) fishing.

As well as it's spring run Steelhead, the Skagit does offer a hatchery run of Steelhead from around Thanksgiving time to about January, not to mention the fact that it is home to all 5 species of Salmon (chinook, coho, pink, chum, and sockeye), Cutthroat, and some of the biggest Dolly Varden Char on the west coast. The Dolly Varden can average 15-20 inches, weighing 3-5 pounds with some upwards of 7-8 pounds! These fish are a great adversary and offer year round opportunities with a 6 weight fly rod and will absolutely gobble a well presented fly.

When fly fishing, it is best to learn using your own rod. This enables you to continuously progress with your current equipment since you are comfortable with it. Petosa's guide Service does provide fly or spey gear for those of you who do not have your own gear. We also provide leaders and flies (some of them hand-tied by me) to match the species we are targeting. Don't forget about the shore lunch to keep you fishing strong, all day long.
